Karen D. Cowgill, PhD, MSc

Clinical Research Manager


Karen Cowgill is an epidemiologist working on IDRI’s Clinical Team. Karen’s extensive field experience includes working in state and local health departments in Arizona, Idaho, and Maryland, conducting a study on hepatitis C virus in Egypt, and writing about HIV in Latin America for the World Bank. She also participated in the Polio Eradication Initiative with WHO/CDC in the Philippines and was an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, where she focused on bacterial respiratory diseases.

Karen joined IDRI in 2006. She holds a BA in Biology from Cornell, a BSN and MPH from Columbia University, an MSc in Medical Parasitology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a PhD in infectious disease epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.
