Aaron Korkegian, PhD Aaron Korkegian, PhD

Scientist I

Aaron Korkegian is a Postdoctoral Scientist with the TB Drug Discovery team at IDRI. His work focuses on investigations into the physiology of the M.tuberculosis (Mtb) cell wall, the development of an overexpression library for high throughput target identification, and the development of target based high throughput screens for potential drug candidates against Mtb.

Learning more about the Mtb cell wall and its critical functions in the physiology and pathogenesis of Mtb will help direct future drug discovery initiatives. The development of a novel Mtb overexpressor strain library will provide an excellent tool for high throughput target identification while work on a target based high throughput screen could potentially identify potential new compounds of interest for Mtb drug development.

Aaron received his BSc in Molecular Biology from Pomona College and his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Washington. His graduate work at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research center focused on protein biochemistry and engineering. Aaron is the first author of two publications, appearing in Science and JMB, and was an invited guest speaker at Enzyme Engineering XVIII in Seoul, Korea. Most recently he presented findings at the 2011 Keystone conference in Vancouver, BC.
