Aarthy Vallur, PhD

Scientist I
Aarthy Vallur is a Scientist I at the Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI). Her work focuses on developing sensitive diagnostic methods based on detecting nucleic acids in Leishmaniasis, in addition to accelerating production of novel vaccine candidates. Prior to joining IDRI, Aarthy worked in the laboratory of Nancy Maizel at the University of Washington on molecular mechanisms and genomic signatures associated with DNA recombination and repair in B lymphocytes that have been activated to produce antibodies.
Aarthy obtained her Masters in Biochemistry at the University of Chennai in India before obtained her Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Florida under Linda Bloom. Her research focused on the kinetic mechanism of human alkyladenine DNA glycosylase, an important DNA repair enzyme, and how it acts on various forms of DNA damage that can cause mutations and cancer.
