Allen Casey

Systems Specialist/Technologist
Allen Casey is the Systems Specialist/Technologist at IDRI. His passion for alleviating neglected disease is deep rooted and in addition to his current biomedical research, he has worked to distribute TB medications in Myanmar (Burma) and Thailand. Allen is currently developing a new group that disseminates scientific technologies throughout the institute’s divisions.
Allen has over 19 years of experience in small-molecule drug discovery in the biotechnology industry, including Plexera, ICOS, MDS Pharma Services, and Panlabs, as well as medical experience at Western Medical Center and Northwest Hospital. Allen played an essential role in the development of IDRI’s drug discovery division, acting as Group Leader of High Throughput Screening and Robotics for four years. Throughout this time, thousands of active compounds have been discovered, many of which will hopefully move into the clinic as new drugs in the treatment of TB. Allen has recently moved into a new position, coordinating scientific and technology undertakings for all of IDRI’s divisions. In this role, he brings technologies such as robotics and information systems to the various needs of the institute.
Formerly a technical scientist and manager at ICOS Corporation, Allen has expertise in high throughput screening (HTS), robotics, bioinformatics, microbiology, cell culture process development, and clinical manufacturing. Allen has creatively engineered many of the instruments and software components used for drug discovery. His current activities include the development of biochemical and whole cell assays, integrating robotics as well as engineering data systems for the laboratories. Allen received his Bachelor’s degree in Natural Science and Biology from the University of Washington.
