Franco M. Piazza, MD, MPH Franco M. Piazza, MD, MPH

Medical Director

Franco Piazza is the Medical Director at IDRI. Franco joined IDRI in July of 2003 and is currently in charge of clinical development of vaccine candidates for leishmaniasis and tuberculosis.

Prior to joining IDRI, Franco was an attending physician in pulmonary medicine at Children's National Medical Center, and a faculty member in the department of pediatrics at George Washington University in Washington, DC. Between January 2001 and June 2003, Franco served as the Director of Clinical Development in Infectious Diseases and Immunology at MedImmune, Inc. in Gaithersburg, Maryland, where he focused on the clinical development of monoclonal antibodies.

Franco obtained his MD from Cayetano Heredia University School of Medicine in Lima, Peru. Franco completed residency training in pediatrics, earned his MPH, and completed fellowship training in pediatric pulmonology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
