Julie A. Bowman, PhD Julie A. Bowman, PhD

Scientist I

Julie Bowman is a Scientist I at IDRI. As an organic chemist in the TB Drug Discovery, Julie contributes to the discovery of new TB drug therapies and elucidating the mechanism of action of existing TB drugs. Julie has also worked in the adjuvant program at IDRI toward the development of novel vaccine adjuvants and diagnostic tools. Her work involves the design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel biologically-relevant molecules. Julie enjoys her additional responsibility improving safety through her role on the IDRI Safety Committee. Prior to joining IDRI, Julie worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a chemist and intellectual property specialist at Molecumetics. She enjoys helping young scientists develop and has taught college-level chemistry courses.

Julie received her MSc and her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Washington. Her graduate research focused on the development of new drug therapies for the malaria-causing Plasmodium falciparum parasite. Julie's work with Professor Pradip Rathod in organic and medicinal chemistry resulted in the generation of molecular compound libraries containing potent and selective enzyme and cell-based inhibitors.
