Lakshmi Jayashankar, PhD

Scientist II
Lakshmi Jayashankar is a Scientist II at the Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI). Her work is focused on assessing immune responses to the IDRI vaccine candidates for Leishmaniasis, Tuberculosis, and Influenza in human clinical trials. Prior to joining IDRI, Lakshmi worked at Vivaldi Biosciences in New York City as part of their preclinical research team for a patented new technology covering live attenuated influenza vaccines with modifications to viral NS1 gene.
Lakshmi received her PhD from Georgia State University in Atlanta in the lab of Drs. Prakash Sambhara and Jacqueline Katz. During her postdoctoral studies in the immunology section of the Influenza Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Lakshmi focused on developing an egg-independent adenoviral vector vaccine strategy for highly pathogenic avian H5N1 influenza strains.
