Lance Ching, PhD

Postdoctoral Scientist
Lance Ching is a Postdoctoral Scientist with the Preclinical
Biology group at IDRI. His work focuses on evaluating the
prophylactic and therapeutic potential of lead Mycobacterium
tuberculosis (Mtb) and influenza vaccine antigens,
adjuvants, and delivery vehicles. A key component of his
research involves designing and implementing in vivo
studies in small animal models to assess the safety and
toxicity of vaccine candidates, to assess the impact on
pathogen burden and disease severity, and to identify
immune correlates of protection.
Lance received his BSc in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
from Yale University in 2003. In 2005, he joined an HIV
laboratory under the direction of Dr. Leonidas Stamatatos,
developing and testing strategies for improving the
immunogenicity of HIV-1 Envelope-based vaccines. He
obtained his PhD in Pathobiology in 2010 from the School of
Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of
Washington.
