IDRI is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our TB Drug Discovery Group. The successful applicant will assist research into novel drug targets, utilizing a wide range of molecular and microbiological techniques.
Qualifications:
• A BS/BA, or equivalent in a biological discipline
• A minimum of 2 years of related laboratory experience
• Experience either in microbiology and/or molecular techniques
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency in MS Office and scientific data/graphics programs

Responsibilities:
• Responsible for performing research and experiments for scientific projects in collaboration with others

Though IDRI’s research focus is on global health, we also believe it’s important to extend our resources to helping those in our local community. One of the ways we do this is by offering internships to students who want to gain valuable experience working in the fields of biotechnology and not-for-profits. Our program is one effort in helping to grow the potential of the next generation of researchers and those who will support them in bringing scientific innovation from the lab to the people who need it most.
The summer internship is a paid 10 week program for university students who want to gain valuable real-world experience working in scientific positions. All students work side-by-side with knowledgeable researchers and staff to perform their jobs and to learn more about careers in biotechnology.

IDRI is seeking a motivated scientific professional to join our leishmania pre-clinical vaccine development group. Approximately 2 million new leishmania cases occur each year but there is currently no defined vaccine to treat or prevent this disease.
Qualifications:
• A BS/BA, or equivalent, in an immunology, microbiology or infectious disease-related discipline and a minimum of 3-7 years of related laboratory experience OR a Master’s degree and 1-3 years of experience
• Experience performing in vivo experiments with infectious agents under BL2 conditions
• Experience with cellular immunology techniques and assays
• Working knowledge of molecular biology techniques, including RNA isolation and real time-PCR
• Working knowledge of biochemical purification methods from bacterial sources and product analysis including spectrophotometry, SDS-PAGE and Western blotting

• Perform cellular immunology experiments, using both in vitro and in vivo models

• Support the planning and scheduling of project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools

IDRI is currently looking for outstanding senior level research scientists with the demonstrated ability to develop a strong independent research program. Candidates must hold a PhD and have a minimum of 10 years experience including a history of innovative, interactive research in the fields of cellular or mucosal immunology and development of vaccines for infectious diseases, with focus on tuberculosis, malaria, leishmaniasis or HIV. We are particularly interested in Senior Scientist-PI candidates with transferable independent funding. Affiliate academic appointments at the University of Washington are possible, depending on merits and qualifications.
