IDRI are seeking a Biostatistician to support our growing efforts in clinical development of vaccine candidates in the United States, South America, Africa and India. The position is expected to be a minimum of 50% time, and hours/days are negotiable.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Work with the clinical development team in the design of clinical trials
• Write statistical sections of protocols and statistical analysis plans
• Work with the clinical project manager and data management team in the development of data collection forms
• Oversee management of database and preparation of study tables and listings
• Analyze and interpret clinical and immunologic study data using appropriate statistical methodology
• Write clinical study reports and manuscripts
• Advise pre-clinical researchers about specific statistical analysis issues
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Statistics or Biostatistics
• Three years of clinical trial experience (vaccine trial experience preferred)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Expert level knowledge of statistical concepts and working knowledge of medical/scientific terminology
• Expertise in clinical trial methodology and applied clinical research statistics in support of pharmaceuticals and/or biologics product development preferred
• Proficiency in SAS or STATA, with strong programming skills
• Knowledge of DataFax preferred
• Experience in report writing for the FDA preferred
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to effectively manage several projects simultaneously with minimal supervision

IDRI is currently seeking a highly motivated research associate with biomolecular skills and training to join our adjuvants and delivery group. This position will be responsible for formulation and characterization of adjuvants and vaccines using modern scientific methods.
Qualifications:
• BSc in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceutics, bioengineering, biophysics; 2-5 years of laboratory experience or advanced degree (e.g. MSc) desirable but not mandatory
• Experience/motivation in the design and formulation of proteins to achieve stability and potency through identification of quality attributes through application of biophysical principles and data applied using state of the art molecular biology, bioanalytical, chemical, spectroscopic, microscopic and calorimetric methods
• Working knowledge and experience writing and following SOPs, working in a cGMP environment with emphasis on analytical test method development
• Experience working at the bench with biomolecules (proteins, nucleic acids, conjugates), biopolymers, excipients and formulation instruments such as microfluidizers, homogenizers, centrifuges
• Strong analysis, oral and written communication and presentation skills, especially with respect to molecular structure and properties
• An interest in Infectious Diseases and an enthusiasm for laboratory research, especially researching the molecular, biophysical and thermodynamic basis for structure and biological activity
• Ability to maintain good laboratory records and complete projects carefully and on time

Primary Responsibilities:
• work at the bench formulating and characterizing novel vaccine systems at the molecular level
• Plan and design experimental methods (e.g Design of Experiments approach) to make and test complex biochemical vaccine systems for properties including structure, stability, activity
• Troubleshoot and solve technical problems, esp. with classical analytical instrumentation such as chromatography (LC-UV, LC-CAD, LC-MS, LC-MS/MS), vibrational and electronic spectroscopies including IR, Fluorescence, Raman; measuring nanoscale phases through light scattering (MALLS, QELS) and microscopies (SEM/TEM); biophysical and thermodynamic profiling (DSC, ITC), chemical methods (conjugation, enzymatic modification)
• Investigate and implement new methodologies, including using computational approaches such as chemometrics, numerical analyses, application of fundamental physical laws and equations
• Analyze and interpret complex data, including integration of biological and physico-chemical results
• To maintain a laboratory book reporting all research conducted as part of project
• Assist in preparation of research reports and publications
• Presentation of data at internal and external meetings
• To develop, or maintain, a good knowledge of current research in the field of biophysics, biochemistry and adjuvancy as related to vaccine development

IDRI is currently looking for outstanding senior level research scientists with the demonstrated ability to develop a strong independent research program. Candidates must hold a PhD and have a minimum of 10 years experience including a history of innovative, interactive research in the fields of cellular or mucosal immunology and development of vaccines for infectious diseases, with focus on tuberculosis, malaria, leishmaniasis or HIV. We are particularly interested in Senior Scientist-PI candidates with transferable independent funding. Affiliate academic appointments at the University of Washington are possible, depending on merits and qualifications.
