R&D Programs

Research and development at IDRI starts with identifying early scientific leads for vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics.

Our scientists actively publish their research in leading journals. Click here to view IDRI's Publication List

Working closely with industry, universities, hospitals, government and private funding agencies, and the World Health Organization, we aim to develop products that can be made in the countries that most need them.

R&D News

  • IDRI has developed the first defined vaccine for leishmaniasis. Following a successful Phase-I study in the United States, we are presently conducting clinical trials in Peru, Brazil, and Colombia.
  • IDRI has developed the first defined vaccine for tuberculosis in partnership with GlaxoSmithKline. The vaccine showed strong potential in a Phase I study; further studies are planned.
  • IDRI, together with its collaborators, has developed simple and reliable diagnostic tests for Chagas disease, tuberculosis, and leishmaniasis. These affordable tests use defined antigens, which help facilitate control efforts.

Together, the diseases we are finding treatments for kill more than six million children and adults each year.
