World TB Day Event
5:30-8 p.m., March 23, 2015
Seattle Town Hall, Downstairs
1119 8th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98101
World TB Day is designed to build public awareness that tuberculosis today remains an epidemic in much of the world, causing the deaths of nearly one-and-a-half million people each year, mostly in developing countries. More than one-third of the world’s population is infected with TB, including people here in Washington state.
A panel of local tuberculosis research and healthcare experts will lead an interactive discussion about the wordwide TB epidemic, the efforts to control its devastating impact, and how individuals can become involved. There will also be exhibits, activities and a free reception with refreshments. Presented by the Washington State Tuberculosis Advisory Committee with sponsorship from the Firland Foundation.
Tanya Parish, Ph.D., from IDRI will discuss IDRI’s TB drug discovery efforts, and members of IDRI’s TB team will host an interactive exhibit.
