Animal health is very closely related to human health. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that about 75% of the new diseases that have affected humans over the past 10 years were caused by pathogens originating from an animal or from products of animal origin. Many these diseases have the potential to spread through various means over long distances and to become global problems.
In many parts of the world, animals are a source of livelihood – providing transportation, power, fuel, clothing and food. Without healthy animals, economic consequences arise.
For these reasons, it’s important to battle infectious diseases in the animal population. IDRI has partnered with Elanco, Eli Lilly’s veterinary product company, to develop new vaccines against five major veterinary diseases, including livestock diseases that pose a potential threat to food sources. As part of this unique partnership, IDRI is developing and supplying adjuvant formulations as well as developing new antigen preparations.
