With IDRI’s depth of knowledge and expertise across a number of scientific disciplines, we work on a variety of infectious diseases, often in partnership with others. These diseases are caused by viruses, bacteria or parasites.
With today’s ease of travel, infectious diseases are found in virtually all parts of the world. However, in low income countries, infectious diseases are a leading cause of death; lower respiratory infections, HIV/AIDS, diarrhoeal diseases, malaria and tuberculosis collectively account for almost one-third of all deaths in these countries. Nearly 4 in every 10 deaths in low income countries are among children under 15 years of age.
We are a leading innovator of adjuvants, substances added to vaccines that enhance the ability of antigens to stimulate the body’s immune response; because of our expertise in this field, we are often asked to collaborate with others who are designing vaccines for the world’s most devastating infectious diseases.
